The Life of Christ
5 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, 6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but made himself nothing, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. 9 Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Philippians 2:5-11 ESV
In review once again, let’s remember that this passage shows us that Jesus was always God. He left the throne room of Heaven to willingly come to earth to become a man. He lived a sinless life and died a sacrificial death that He didn’t deserve to die. God raised Him from the dead and because of His humiliation, God the Father glorified Him and gave Him a name that is above every other name. This name holds a title, Lord. It represents status and authority. Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father.
Because Jesus is Lord, He alone deserves our trust, respect, obedience, and devotion. The fact that Jesus is Lord requires our submission and our daily obedience. He reigns as Lord of all today.
John 17:3-4 says, “And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. I glorified you on earth, having accomplished the work that you gave me to do.”
Jesus glorified His Heavenly Father here on earth. Our proper response to what God has done for us through His Son, Jesus, is also to bring glory to Him.
1 Corinthians 10:31 says, “So, whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”
Every aspect of our life, if lived well, can bring God glory. How is this possible?
When you face a temptation and stand strong knowing God is your strength and courage, you bring Him glory. When you faithfully worship and grow and serve you bring God glory. When you study His Word and apply what you learn, you glorify the Lord. When you are fearful of financial insecurities or a health diagnosis or the decisions of your child, yet you seek the Lord, listen to His Word, patiently wait for Him to intervene, you bring Him glory. When you continue to faithfully support His ministry here on earth with your time and your finances, you bring Him glory. When you remember the cross and the sacrifice Jesus made for you, you bring Him glory and honor. Every aspect of life can bring glory and honor to God. Don’t waste an opportunity today to honor and glorify the Lord with the decisions and choices you make.
