Highlights of the Men's Retreat, Braveheart '08

What a retreat!  148 men and friends, fathers and sons from Henderson Hills invaded Jacob's Ladder Camp and Retreat last weekend for Braveheart '08.  God worked in supernatural ways throughout the entire to make it a special time for many men.  I would personally like to thank Southwest Airlines for making safety their top priority as Bart Sego and I stressed over our speaker, Neal Jeffrey, getting to OKC.  Let's share some highlights of how God spoke through Neal this past weekend in Lincoln County.

  • Identify and Address fatal flaws in your life.  Satan wants to steal, kill and destroy but Christ came that we may have life and have it abundantly (John 10:10).  Fatal flaws in men are:  Idolizing money and possessions (the rich young ruler), Mismanagement of money (the shrewd manager), Pride (Acts 12:21-23), Independence (II Samuel 11) (wasn't it nice being at the retreat sleeping in tents), Busyness, People pleasing, Lying and sexual sin.  Identify yours (know thyself) and address it- one guy shared that he buried his fatal flaw(that he has struggled for years with) out on the grounds of Jacob's Ladder.  Praise God for His moving this weekend.
  • Passionately pursue an intimate personal relationship with Jesus Christ.  There is more to gain in life than living, having kids, and he died(Genesis 5:3)  Enoch walked with God.  If you don't know how, find a man and let him fix your slice.  It is easy to fake being a Christian, take that same energy and get to know Jesus intimately - On Saturday morning as Micah Kersh and Andy Marks led us into the presence of God through worship, the Holy Spirit moved on two men to help Jerry Scott, a man handicapped and confined to a wheel-chair, to stand on his feet raised by Christian brothers, to passionately worship Christ.  Jerry was overjoyed to be lifted up ,exclaiming, "What an awesome experience!"
  • Actively seek the manifested presence of Christ in my life.  Since there is something supernatural in me, something supernatural should come out of me.   We need to say it (Matt 16) and do it (Matt 14).  We, then, can live an abundant life where we die to ourselves.
  • Finally, Neal share seven thoughts of going from here:  Make a memory; Fall in love with Christ, His church, His Word, our wives, our children and our community; Know the Word; Take a knee- Prayer should dominate our lives; Leave a legacy - You are being watched; Answer the bell - Don't quit, Press on to the 12th round; and Proceed with Power!

A personal highlight:  For two years I have slept under the stars in the back of my best friend's pickup truck at the retreat.  It was cold this year (and a lot of dew Saturday morning).  Waking up seeing the fog on Bell Cow Lake, looking west to see Tent City and over twenty tents, a fifth wheel and pop up trailer, I could just sense that God is flavoring this retreat with some spice that will draw many hungry men for years to come.  Please respond by sharing your highlights of God's moving at the retreat on this blog.

Rob and Bart, thank you for the outstanding work you did with Braveheart 08. Thanks also to all the other men, and there were many, who made this event such a good one. It was an experience that I will always remember and draw personal strength from. Clearly God was present among us! Neal's messages to us were powerful and surely inspired. I came away from Braveheart 08 feeling the love of Christ, with strengthened and new friendships, personally challenged, and with an appreciation for all the great men, young and old, who attended this event. I can't wait for next year's event where there will be no "rabbits" escaping, not under my watch.

The "2008 Braveheart Retreat" was excellent......and I am so glad that I was an attendee. It was great meeting new men of HHBC and enjoy the fellowship with other men of the church that I am already friends with.

We are blessed to have Rob Hunt & Bart Sego working so hard and dedicated to our men's group(s). The men of HHBC are additionally so blessed to have such Godly men of the church that are such encourager's in our walk with Christ.

To each man that I had conversations and spent time with at the retreat, you blessed me more than you will ever know.

Christ's Blessings to each one of you.

Thanks, Bob for the affirmation. God is at work. I pray we do not take that for granted in our church. It was a great "vacation" for a lot of guys. May He continue to use you in the lives of men in our church and community.
