Important Middle School Camp Update - April 15, 2020
Dear Middle School Students and Parents,
I hope this email finds you all safe and well. Our Student Ministry team is continuing to lift you up in prayer daily.
From the beginning, we have been monitoring the progress and effects of COVID-19 and how it pertains to our church gatherings and activities. After much prayer and discussion amongst the Student Ministry Team and our elders, I now come to you with a heavy heart and the news that we will be cancelling Middle School Camp 2020 due to the health and safety concerns for both our students and volunteers.
For those of you who have already signed-up online, you will be fully refunded. We will begin contacting you in the following weeks, please keep an eye out for those next steps via email or phone.
Students, I know you are hurting through this decision. Believe me, camp is such an encouraging time for me as well. But I want us to recognize that Jesus does not work in our lives solely in a camp experience, but in our everyday experiences. Let us find our encouragement in the reading of God’s word, knowing the promises of God’s care for His children and His purpose for our good (Psalm 93:19, Romans 8:23).
Christian, know that God is indeed using this time to shape and mold you into the image of his Son, Jesus Christ. So I ask you, as the saints before us, to endure the fires of refining in your hearts. See these delays and cancellations as God’s invitation to you to become more mature in Christ Jesus and more eager for the Kingdom of God. Let these times cultivate your heart, as we had planned for camp, in following him more now than when you first believed.
Camp also is not uniquely for the believer, but for the purpose of proclaiming the Gospel of Christ, to those who have hope and to those who have not believed. So to you students who have not put your faith in Christ’s life, death, and resurrection, take this time of limited distraction to engage the God of the universe, and honestly ask yourself, “Do I believe and live in such a way that is marked by following Christ and resting in his finished work on the cross?” If you’re unsure what this question means or how to answer this, please talk to someone about faith in Jesus Christ. I would love to hear from you as well.
Again students, I am truly sorry that it has come to this decision, but please pray that God would open a future opportunity to celebrate with one another the message of the good news of Christ. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or would like to talk through this decision.
Lastly, let me leave you with this encouragement from Romans 15:13, “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.”
Grace and Peace,
Student Ministry Middle School Director
