The Bible mentions two offices of the church: elder and deacon. The word “deacon” comes from the Greek word diakonos, which literally means servant or helper. The deacons, therefore, are the servant-ministers of the church. They are biblically qualified, servant officers who are called by God and led by elders. In their role, they relieve the elders of some of the multitude of practical duties by caring for the congregation’s physical welfare. The qualifications of a deacon are outlined in 1 Timothy 3:8–13.
Annually, the HHBC congregation is asked for deacon candidate recommendations. Becoming a candidate marks the beginning of a year-long process of mentoring, Bible study, interviews, and completion of key doctrinal questions. The candidates who successfully complete the mentoring process are presented before the church for a congregational vote, then ordained and installed as a deacon at HHBC.
Presented below are this year’s candidates who have been affirmed by the Elder Council.
Voting will take place on Sunday, November 17.
