About this Sermon...

1 Samuel 27–30 tells the story of David’s unexpected detour into fear and compromise, echoing the parable of the prodigal son. After faithfully trusting God, David suddenly gives in to fear and flees to enemy territory, seeking refuge among the Philistines. There, he lies, manipulates, and creates a mess that nearly forces him to fight against his own people. But just as with the prodigal son, God graciously intervenes, pulling David out of the chaos and leading him back to trust and obedience. When David finally turns to the Lord, he finds strength, guidance, and victory. Ultimately, this passage points us to Jesus, the true and better King, who not only invites prodigals home but also provides the way. In Him, we find mercy, restoration, and the power to return.
