Can Old Testament stories apply to our current-day situations? After all, we don’t live in a monarchy, and we don’t have a promised land in which to dwell and defend. Yet often the same temptations found in 1 Samuel arise in our own lives, which makes those stories both instructive and a warning. In it we see God’s people reject Him as their King, search for a human governing authority, and pay the price in the end. Sadly, the same situation can occur in each of our hearts today. Nothing, though, ultimately removes God from His throne—the truth is that “He Shall Reign.”
