To Be Content

“For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” “In humility count others more significant than yourselves.” “I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord.” “I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content.” How could the Apostle Paul write these words? When we look around us and see a world filled with materialism, with pride, and with an insatiable desire for more, these words seem so backward. When we look inside ourselves and see a soul tempted toward the same things, these words seem so impossible. Paul knew a secret though, a secret that led to His contentment. He knew the One that leads to contentment. That perspective steeled his spine and trimmed his desires, leading to a counter-cultural way of life—one that even today shines in stark contrast to a dark world. So, as the discontentment around us and inside us creeps up, as the world rages and rolls, gather with us on Sundays for this sermon series through the book of Philippians entitled, “To Be Content…”
